Somewhere between an encyclopedia, coffee table book, and blog, Houseplants: A Devotion is an introduction to the amazing world of houseplants that grows just like its subjects. Immerse yourself in the amazing diversity and endless inventiveness of the plant kingdom, with beautiful, revealing photos, plant care advice, and a ton of trivia and history. Maybe youll find a new plant you want to bring home!
H:AD works best with a live network connection, downloading new houseplants from the internet. In all honesty there are so many plants out there that this collection doesnt even scratch the surface, but no fear, more are on the way! Having secured open access to the inventory of some great local shops, horticulturalists, and nurseries, and the generous advice of their experts, new content should be added regularly.
What started as a project to lovingly document a personal collection has blossomed into a full-blown houseplant obsession. If you have interesting information to contribute, or a favorite plant you want to see represented, please get in touch and help to build the most accurate, dynamic, and informative devotion we can.
Heck, maybe you even have a plant supermodel I can shoot.
Disclaimer:
Like most care information given about plants, this is advice. The facts Ive presented are accurate to the best of my knowledge, but the proper care for plants varies tremendously based on where you live, the climate, and a host of other factors that no one set of advice could ever hope to cover. Im not even going to tell you that a certain plant is easy or hard, because that depends on whether its easy or hard... for you. A houseplant that takes regular watering isnt going to be very good for a person away on business, no matter how robust they may be otherwise. The same care might even work for one plant, while an exact clone of it fails to thrive right next to it. It takes some practice to get used to many plants! Ive killed plenty myself.
Despite striving for a high level of quality, there may be transcription errors, factual inaccuracies, or other issues with the information collected herein, and its always best to find out about a particular plants needs yourself, talking to local experts who can tell you about anything you need to watch for in your area. The advice here is a guideline only, and if you disagree with it I want to know, because it can be fixed! The amount of misinformation out there in the plant industry is staggering, and many plants you buy at the store arent even identified correctly, so theres always the chance I and my sources have simply gotten something wrong. Just fill me in, and Ill take care of it. One of the goals of this project is to stop the spread of bad information, and making changes to the contents is easy.
That said, you can always just look at the pretty photos!
